| Silky Terrier wants Roommate/Pet-/House-sitter (9th & 9th) $350 My two cat step-brothers and I live with our 41yo dad in a big old house in the 9th&9th area. Dad is gone a lot (he travels for work and sometimes just goes away for fun)and wants to make sure someone is around to take care of us. He wants us to have loving company, not just food and water. (For example, I like a walk every day and love to come along whenever I'm invited. Actually, I would actually like it best if you maybe did part of your work from home or somehow had a flexible schedule so you could be around a lot - especially when dad isn't.)
Dad still hasn't finished the remodeling of this 1912 house and I think he is hopelessly overextended, so progress on house-remodeling will probably continue to be slow. But it's a nice house with a large living and a large dining room. Dad has all the furniture and stuff and he hates when anyone abuses it (I tell my brothers not to sharpen their claws on the sofa and such, and if someone spills stuff on the couch table I immediately help to clean it up...) We also have a yard and some tables and chairs out there.
Dad has a preference for gay men (he's one, too)- he says he's generally more comfortable around them - but in this context he wants a roommate, not anything else and a really cool woman or non-gay man might work out just fine, too... (yeah, a gay guy should be really cool, too!) None of us like cigarettes - so we only want non-smokers living with us. We also don't want to be around drugs, excessive boozing, constant loud rock-music, inconsiderate, moody or chronically unhappy or non-stop high drama people. Communicative, straight-forward and friendly, on the other hand, would rock!
We also don't want our house to turn into Grand Central Station (my brothers, especially, don't like strangers in the house) so dad doesn't want the roommate to bring people over. We had a roomie once who had lots of friends and different people came over a lot. I liked it (many of them were real nice to me) but dad is not up for that at all.
We don't need or want any more furniture to clutter the "common" spaces, but you can put whatever you want in your room. We only have one bathroom that we all share, but it seems to work. We're not clean-freaks, dad is constantly fighting entropy and tries to keep down the clutter, and we like general housekeeping which our roomie should share with dad.
When dad is gone he needs someone honest, reliable and competent to "hold down the fort." He doesn't want us to be alone much at all - so you really can't move in with us if you work 12 hour shifts... (I would like it best if you maybe did part of your work from home or somehow had a flexible schedule so you could be around a lot - especially when dad isn't.) Dad wants someone to reliably bring in the mail and help (about 1-2 hrs/week max) with some ongoing chores (recording receipt of and depositing checks for rentals he has). If that doesn't get done I might not get any food - so absolutely no slacking on that!
Even when dad is home, he wants the roommate to carry an equal load with respect to keeping up the house and such. (He even wants you to pay half the electric bill and $10/mo if you want to use his WiFi.) For consistency's sake, he wants the mail-getting and animal care to be the roomie's job even when he's home (e.g. we always need food and water, I need to go outside from time to time, like at least one walk a day and my brothers poop in a litter box which needs to be cleaned daily). The $350/mo rate is what dad would charge just for the room with regular roomie-responsibilities. He expects to make that cheaper for your house- and pet-sitting chores.
Dad says I've gone on for too long already. But he's really long-winded, too, sometimes... He has his issues, but he's pretty cool and people generally like to be around him. So if you think something like this might work for you, please either answer this ad right here through craigslist or call him at 801-699-7998.
